THE RAG ROOM

It was my first time in their apartment and he was delighted to show me round the house. I gladly entered each room inspecting the fittings. A locked room was however omitted as he walked pass the lobby. My curiosity was loud and I asked why we were not checking that particular room. He told me that’s where they kept their rags and abandoned gadgets. A particular odd odour actually oozed from there. It’s a sweet apartment but it has a bitter room that’s always locked and occasionally available at viewers’ discretion. I promptly told him I didn’t mind; I was already learning a deeper lesson unknown to him. When he unlocked, I saw disorder, dust, darkness and danger. It was so large! How could such a clean house have such a dirty room? “So why do you keep these”? “We’ve not found time to dispose them”! I saw the rag room because I asked, he wouldn’t have shown me! Did you get that my sister? Don’t be eyes wide shut into relationship bro! ASK!

Every privilege I have to visit people’s emotional or spiritual apartments in counselling, I always check their rag rooms. That’s where the odours of issues usually come from and it has saved me from labour losses. We all have lovely rooms of appearance and elegance that we open for inspection and affection. We deliberately walk pass the door leading to the vault of cultural issues like it’s not part of the apartment called us! We know how to skip them with bold faces and fluent tongues of excuses. The room we refuse to put in order morally, dusty habits we refused to clean up, dark places we deny the light of truth, dangerous languages that come in handy when we step out of the divine “Master’s Bedroom”. We seem never to find the time to dispose them until they threaten our spiritual sanity! It was that weekend that I cleaned the rag room in our own apartment.
Dear singles, ask questions about the rag room(s). You might have prophetically inspected the guy and emotionally analyzed her to parental and pastoral satisfaction without diligently checking the rag room. Many times, you need to fix it before you can fit in. Let there be light in the rag room, open the door because behind may be “issues of life”!
